Pete Wentz celebrated his 31st birthday last night at his LA bar Angels and Kings with wife Ashlee Simpson by his side. Unlike the Fall Out Boy frontman’s raucous Las Vegas bash last year – which resulted in Pete getting into an altercation with a photographer -  this year’s party was decidedly tame.

In fact, with pinatas and Tootsie Rolls decorating the velvet-draped restaurant it looked fit for a children’s party.

But of course it was still an adult-only affair, meaning that Pete and Ashlee’s son Bronx stayed home with Ashlee’s sister Jessica, who tweeted about swimming and eating hot dogs with the 19-month old.

Pete looked ever the dapper dad in a charcoal suit coat with a black T-shirt and slim fit black pants. Ashlee kept it sexy in a short black dress with a trendy lace asymmetrical shoulder.

The couple – who married in 2008 – were as loved-up as newlyweds with Ashlee beaming and Pete rarely letting go of her hand.

She presented him with a surprise birthday cake and clapped as he blew out the candles.

Fall Out Boy is on hiatus and that means Pete will have lots of time to play his new Big Buck Safari video game – a birthday gift from his wife. Pete tweeted about the arcade game, saying: ‘my house just got so much more bar on tour like! thanks to @ashsimpsonwentz for my bday. tho i have no interest in hunting anything in real life- this made my day!!!!’

Ashlee, who is no longer shooting Melrose Place, has said she is now taking a break to spend time with her son and work on producing her fourth studio album.
