 Nicole and Ashlee’s Joke Bid Fails

Nicole Richie and Ashlee Simpson tried to play a April Fool’s Day prank on Pete Wentz – but failed miserably.

The trio went out for dinner together, with the two ladies confident of getting one over on their prey, but Fall Out Boy bassist Pete, who married Ashlee in May 2008, had a sense that something wasn’t right.

“Ah saw Nicole Richie out at dinner. Feel like I dodged a prank between her and my wife by seconds,” he told his followers on Twitter. And Nicole admitted defeat, but wouldn’t reveal what the planned prank was.

She tweeted: “I had a PERFECT prank for Pete Wentz, but he caught me! Grrrrrrrrrrr. Gonna have to step up my game.”

And they weren’t the only celebs across the pond trying out April Fool’s gags. Ashlee’s sister Jessica Simpson tried her best to fool her Twitter followers, declaring: “Is there an accelerated learning programme to become an asteroid miner? If so, I’m in.”
